The PTA works under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. The duties include assisting the Physical Therapist in implementing treatment programs according to the plan of care. The PTA trains a patient in exercises and activities of daily living, conducts treatments using special equipment, administers modalities and other treatment procedures and reports to the Physical Therapist on the patient’s response.

Enrollment limited to 16 students at CKTC campus and 12 at SWOSU campus
Prerequisite courses may be taken at the SWOSU's Weatherford or Sayre campus. Prerequisites may also be obtained from other accredited institutions as long as they will transfer to SWOSU Weatherford.
In the event of a substitution, the Request to Substitute Prerequisite form will be completed by the PTA Program Director prior to acceptance.
A separate application is required for admission to the PTA - Technical Specialty program. Applications for this program are available from CKTC by mail for a fee of $5, or can be downloaded for free at www.caddokiowa.com or www.swosu.edu.

Admission to this portion of the program is competitive and based on grade point averages, interviews, references, experience and other evidence of potential success in the program.
Admission to SWOSU does not guarantee admission to this portion of the PTA program, although applicants are awarded one point per technical support course prerequisite taken at SWOSU for up to 5 points. All technical support courses must have been taken within the past seven years from the date of application. Admissions are limited to the top 28 students (16 at CKTC and 12 at SWOSU).
The application deadline is April 1. Interviews are in May and classes begin in August. Enrollment is limited to 28 students total. All students accepted into the program will be required to pass a drug screen and criminal background check before participation in Clinical Practicum I. These will be conducted during the first week of class. In Accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Board of Licensure and Supervision, anyone who has been convicted of a felony or of a crime involving moral turpitude will not be eligible for licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
Admission will be determined using the following guidelines:
- Meet SWOSU admission requirements
- Have a GPA minimum of 2.7 in all college-level work attempted with a minimum grade of C for all prerequisite courses
- 40 documented observational hours with a PT/PTA
- Place of residence
- Reference letters
- Experience in Health Care Related Field (minimum one year)
- Results of personal interview
- All students will be required to pass a drug screen and criminal background check.
