Fort Cobb, OK – February 5, 2010 - Students representing their respective student organization (SkillsUSA; Business Professionals of America; and Family Career and Community Leaders of America) recently competed in CKTC’s Local Leadership contest.
Students prepared resumes in advance of the competition with the assistance of CKTC’s Job Readiness instructors. The participants were judged on the following criteria: Greeting and introduction; appearance; completeness and clarity of resume; eye contact; presentation; and the ability to relate present skills to job.
Students placing first and second will advance to the district level of competition for their student organization.
SkillsUSA post-secondary champion was Cosmetology student, Amanda Owings (Anadarko). There was a three way tie for second: Criminal Justice students William Chase (Anadarko); Sandra Nix (Carnegie) and Venus Birdshead (Anadarko). The SkillsUSA district is February 18 at Great Plains Technology Center in Lawton. Champion in the secondary division was Criminal Justice student Kyli Ahtone (Riverside). Second place was Criminal Justice student Alysha Archilta (Anadarko High School).
BPA students will compete at the State Leadership Conference in the Tulsa area on March 10. Business and Computer Technology student Flora Morton (Anadarko) placed first. BCT student Mia Beaver (Anadarko) placed second.
FCCLA winners were both from the Hotel and Restaurant Management class: Sarita Horse (Carnegie) placed first and Alex Phillips (Anadarko) placed second.
CKTC also recognizes the overall top three winners of the local competition. First place went to Amanda Owings. Placing second were William Chase, Venus Birdshead and Sandra Nix. Third place went to Flora Morton.
Also receiving honors at the local event were Criminal Justice students Talon Davis (Carnegie) Randal Clift (Fort Cobb-Broxton High School); and Maria Gonzales (Hinton High School); and BCT students Felicia Lopez (Carnegie) and Rae Ann Tselee (Anadarko).
SkillsUSA, BPA and FCCLA are professional development organizations that emphasize leadership, professionalism, as well as highlighting job and technical skills. Participation in the organizations is another way CKTC helps students succeed with their career goals.
