Blue Ribbon Event held in honor of Foster Care Awareness Month

Fort Cobb, OK – May 13, 2013 – Raising awareness of children in foster care is a year-round passion for the staff at Caddo Kiowa Technology Center’s Early Care Center. But during the month of May, a month designated to National Foster Care Awareness, they expect that passion to spread to others. On Friday, the staff, students and children in the center helped decorate the center with blue ribbons.

“The event calls attention to the pressing needs of those in foster care and it helps us get others involved in the process,” reported Amy Cowan, Early Care & Education Director. “When others see the blue ribbons, they will ask questions, and when people ask questions, it then gives us the perfect opportunity to share their purpose.”

According to the website, the nation’s leading child welfare organizations come together in May to raise the visibility of foster care issues. With more than 380,000 children and youth under 18 living in out-of-home care throughout the year, the focus is to encourage more people to get involved and support the more

Cowan added that she hopes the efforts will motivate others to consider becoming foster parents.
