Pre-Engineering

Program Summary

Pre-Engineering Education combines advanced math and science with a hands-on, real-world application of engineering concepts.

This program is available to only high school students.

  • Learn about the many career choices in engineering and what it takes to be a high-salaried engineer.
  • Plan a city; program a robot and design other hands-on projects while you learn engineering concepts.
  • Take out the guesswork. Know engineering is the right career for you.
  • Be focused and get on track to successfully complete an engineering degree.
  • Earn college credit while still in high school.

Course Sequence

Students should take all 3 foundational courses; at least one specialty course; and all students should complete the capstone course.

Foundational Courses:

  • Principles of Engineering (POE)
  • Introduction to Engineering Design (IED)
  • Digital Electronics (DE)

Specialty Courses:

  • Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM)
  • Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA)
  • Aerospace Engineering (AE)

Capstone Course:

  • Engineering Design and Development

Mathematics Course Sequence: All students should complete a minimum of four mathematics courses. University recommends engineering students should be ready for Calculus I

  • Algebra I (prerequisite)
  • Geometry (prerequisite)
  • Algebra II (recommended)
  • Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus
  • Calculus or AP Calculus

Science Course Sequence
All Students should complete a minimum of four science courses.
*University recommends engineering students have Physics experience

  • Biology (prerequisite)
  • Physical Science (prerequisite)
  • Chemistry (recommended)
  • Physics

Indicators of Success:

  • ACT Composite Score of 22 – 26+
  • ACT Plan Composite of 20-22+
  • “B” or better in prerequisite courses

Also Highly Recommended: Computer Programming (C++ or Java)
