Long-Term Care Nurse Assistant

Program Summary

It is the purpose of this program is to prepare the student to become a Certified Long Term Care Nurse Aide. Successful completion of this Oklahoma State Department of Health approved Long Term Care Nurse Aide training program and competency evaluation program, will result in the trainee being listed on the state nurse aide registry as a LTCNA “Long Term Care Nurse Aide.”

Objectives

The objective of this program is to train nurse aides for long-term care facilities for the following purposes:

  • Provide personal care to residents;
  • Form a relationship, communicate, and interact competently on a one-to-one basis with the interdisciplinary team members, residents, and their families;
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to resident’s emotional, social and mental health needs through skillful, directed interactions;
  • Assist residents in attaining and maintaining independence;
  • Support and promote resident’s rights; and
  • Demonstrate observational and reporting skills needed in the assessment of residents health, physical condition and well being.

Completion

To satisfactory complete the program the student must meet the following criteria:

  • Completes 54 hours on classroom training, skills practice and testing.
  • Must meet the attendance requirements for class and clinical.
  • Completes the Health Certification Project Skills Evaluation at 100%
  • Complete to Health Certification Project written exam at 70% or better.
     

Admission

The individual enrolled must be 16 years of age or above. The individual should have at least a limited ability to read, write, and carry out orders. Individuals enrolled through a Long Term Care Facility must meet the enrollment requirements of that Facility. A uniform admission Application to a Nurse Aide Training Program will be completed on each student.
 

Tuition

Trainees enrolled through employment in a facility or nursing home that is a member of the Caddo Kiowa Long Term Care Training Consortium, are not charged any fees. The employer pays for training, insurance and testing fees. Enrollment includes liability insurance coverage while you are in the clinical setting during the training experience. This liability insurance does not follow you beyond the training program.

Individuals who are not employed by a facility, but want to complete the training and testing program, may enroll as a short-term student through Adult Training & Development. The cost for independent enrollment is as follows:

Background Check

  • “An employer-based program shall complete the State required criminal arrest check. The record of the finding shall be maintained by the employer. These records shall be destroyed after one year from the end of employment of the person to whom such records relate. (63.1-1950.3 (H))
     
  • A non-employer based program shall notify trainees that if a criminal arrest check reveals a cause which bars employment in a health care entity, then the trainee shall be withdrawn from the training program.
     
  • If a non-employer based training program does not require an OSBI criminal arrest check as part of the admission requirements to the training program, the training program shall provide the trainee with written notification.”
